Abstract

Sections 1, 2, 4 to 6, 9, 11 to 24, 26, 27, 29, 32 and 34 of the Prevention of Oil Pollution Act 1971 of the United Kingdom, subject to the exceptions and modifications as set out in the Schedule hereto, shall extend to Bermuda. The sections of the Act provide for: discharge of certain oils into sea outside territorial waters; discharge of oil into Bermudian waters; equipment in ships to prevent oil pollution; liability of owner or master of polluting ship; facilities in harbour for disposal of oil residues; duty to report discharge of oil into waters of harbours; Minister may give directions in case of accidents for the purpose of preventing or reducing oil pollution; compensation for loss or damage due to directions given; powers of inspection; oil records; enforcement; prosecution, offences; power of Her Majesty to apply certain provisions to ships registered outside Bermuda; power of the Minister to grant exemptions; Regulation making, etc.
