"Animal" in this Act means a living vertebrate animal including any mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian and fish. The offences defined in the Act include the hunting of captive animals in bad condition liberated for the purpose of hunting and the cruel slaughtering of animals. Experimenting on animals requires a licence to be granted by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for the time being responsible for animal husbandry. The licensee shall observe conditions attached to the licence and experiments shall only be carried out for purposes specified in the Act. A special permit is required to carry out experiments in another manner as prescribed by this Act.
