Abstract This Act makes amendments in the Principal Act to facilitate the export of pelagic fish and create a corridor to the high seas as the new boundary for the 20 percent Domestic Fishing Zone, in order to achieve an ecologically and economically sustainable Domestic Fishing Zone. These amendments include commercial exports of fish within the DFZ; long-line fishing within the DFZ and their commercial export; revenue from fish caught inside and exported from the domestic fishing zone; new boundaries of the domestic fishing zone; access of local fishermen to the fish; development of local fish industry; landing obligations for all fish caught in the DFZ; exemptions to landing obligations by the Ministry; foreign fishing agreement for long-line fishing vessels; prohibited acts; fish export tax; and allocation of the Pristine Paradise Environmental Fee to the Fisheries Protection Trust Fund. New responsibilities are assigned to the Palau International Coral Reef Center to protect the marine environment and resources through research, education and outreach activities.
