Abstract The Danish AgriFish Agency can grant subsidies to owners and tenants of farms. The subsidy is a yearly amount equivalent to 1 400 DKK/ha. Approval for grants is given to maintaining changed drainage in areas specifically designated, and this Order’s regulations apply to especially designated areas to ensure drainage conditions that are favorable for nature, including nesting and foraging of birds. The Order is regulated by the Agency and agreed grants for designated areas shall cover the period of one year (1 September 2009 – 1 September 2010). Approval of a subsidy for an area is subject to the following criteria: that the designated area is entitled to the application for grants, and that the area is of a minimum size of 0.30 ha. Approval of a subsidy for an area is subject to: the agreeing parties shall operate the said areas (1); that the area is not included in the commitment period covered by a subsidy scheme for forestry (2); that the area is not within the period of commitment imposed on forest reserve duty , except for non-vegetated forest reserve areas (3); the area is not effective within the commitment period covered by the agreement or easement under the EU-Directive on the criteria for awarding funds to restore wetlands (4); the commitment holders each year of the commitment period declares that the conditions of the undertaking are fulfilled, see article 28 , and the statement is received by the Danish AgriFish Agency latest 1 August (5); that the Agency may in special cases grant exemption from section 1, No. 5 required deadline (6).
