Abstract The Danish AgriFish Agency shall grant subsidies to farmers in order to convert and maintain organic agricultural production on agricultural land. The purpose is to increase the organic area and to achieve a number of benefits for the environment and biodiversity through this conversion. The subsidies are granted for the production of specified fruits and berries (listed under art. 16), as well as for supplements for the reduction of nitrogen (surcharge for land and in farms with limited supply of nitrogen). Commitment to allowances for reduced nitrogen application to an area is subject to an average of supplied 60 kg of nitrogen/hectare of land in each of the planning periods ending within the commitment period or 30 September of the calendar year on the commitment expiration.
