Abstract

This Order validates the Regulation on the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution Botanical Garden-Institute of Ufa Scientific Center as protected natural area of federal significance (located in Republic of Bashkortostan) defines tasks, scientific profile of the institution as dendrological, legal status, organizational structure and applicable protection regime. Scientific profile of the institution shall be botanical. The main purpose of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution Botanical Garden-Institute of Ufa Scientific Center shall be performance of fundamental scientific research and applied developments in the field of botany, ecology, forestry, nature protection. The main tasks of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution Botanical Garden-Institute of Ufa Scientific Center shall be as follows: (a) introduction into cultivation of new species, forms and varieties of woody and herbaceous plants (rare and endangered species, ornamental, medicinal, fruit and berry, forest-forming, tropical and subtropical) valuable and promising botanically and (or) economically, introduction study of their biological and ecological characteristics in new conditions of growth, development on this basis of methods of adaptation (acclimatization), reproduction and cultivation thereof with the use of biotechnological methods; (b) creation of specialized scientific collections of plants, expositions, nurseries, experimental sites, herbaria; (c) improvement, maintenance and expansion of the unique collection fund of living plants in order to preserve biodiversity and enrich the flora; (d) study of natural flora and vegetation of the Southern Urals and other regions based on floristic, phytocenotic, silvicultural, population genetic, ecological research; (e) conducting field, expeditionary research of territories (including protected ones) with the purpose of identifying the biodiversity of flora and vegetation, patterns of spatial organization of vegetation cover, its population structure and anthropogenic dynamics, identification of plant species in need of protection, assessment of nature conservation significance of plant communities, development of measures for their protection and rational use; (f) study of the phenotypic and genetic diversity of plant species (including rare and endangered species), environmental monitoring of the state of plant communities, individual species and populations, synanthropization processes, introduction of alien species into natural ecosystems; (g) identification of potentially invasive species; (h) forecasting the evolutionary development of species and plant communities in the context of global climate change; (i) development of measures to preserve biodiversity and the gene pool of wild plants at population and phytocenotic level (especially rare and endangered species), identification of new protected natural areas (botanical natural monuments, reserves); (j) development and implementation of promising test methods for bioindication of environmental pollution; (k) identification of promising forms of plants for selection and introduction into culture, the creation of new varieties, development of biotechnology for propagation in vitro of valuable plants, reintroduction of rare species into natural communities, development of modern methods of landscape phytodesign, landscaping of territories, industrial and residential premises, ecological education; (l) preservation in artificial conditions of collections of living plants (especially rare and endangered species) and other botanical sites of great scientific, educational, economic and cultural value; (m) research work corresponding to the tasks of the Botanical garden-institute; and (n) performance of educational, pedagogical and scientific work in the field of botany and nature protection, plant growing and selection, ornamental gardening and landscape architecture.
