Abstract

This Order provides for the enforcement of Council Directive No. 88/407/EC of 14 June 1988 which prescribes sanitary inspection requirements applicable to intra-Community trade and importation from third countries of frozen bovine semen. Chapter I deals with scope and definitions (semen, semen collection centre, veterinary centre, batch, collecting country, authorized laboratories and collections). Chapter II covers the general principles of intra-Community trade and chapter III sets out those for the importation of semen from third countries. Chapter IV prescribes safeguards. Annex A sets out the general principles for the authorization and management of semen collection centres. Annex B deals with the conditions for the admission of animals to the centres, as well as for the routine compulsory tests to be undergone by cattle. Annex C prescribes semen sampling conditions and the details to be provided in health certificates are listed in annex D.
