Abstract

This Order applies to commercial fishing license which may only be issued once a year. 1 - Limited licences carrying a maximum allowable catch apply to: vessels of a minimum tonnage of 75 BRT fishing for halibut (Hippoglossus), redfish (Sebastes marinus), roundnose grenadier (Coryphaenoides rupestris), capelin (Mallotus villosus) and cod; to scallop-fishing vessels regardless of their size; and to Greenlandic vessels fishing in foreign waters. 2 - Limited licenses where there is NO maximum allowable catch requisition apply to : Greenlandic vessels in special cases where no requirement of maximum allowable catch is required due to biological reasons; to crab-fishing; to foreign vessels fishing in Greenland territory; and to experimental fishing in Greenland's fishing territory regardless of nationality of vessel. 3 - Unlimited licenses with a maximum allowable catch are issued for commercial shrimp-fishing. Such licenses shall specify percentage of quota based on vessel components and area of fishing. Holders of coastal shrimp fishing license shall receive quota shares from 1 September 1996 and, after consultation with a quota committee composed of representatives from the Directorate of Fisheries, APK, KNAPK and Royal Greenland A / S, the government shall set these shares with validity between 1 September to 31 December 1996, after which the government shall establish final quota shares. They are based on license holder’s average annual shrimp-fishing between 1 July 1993 to 30 June 1996.
