Abstract The Order sets rules on the protection and hunting of seals, harp (Pagophilus groenlandicus), hooded seal (Cystophora cristata), bearded seal (Erignathus barbatus), ringed seal (Phoca hispida), harbor seal (Phoca vitulina) and gray seals (Halichoerus grypus) in Greenlandic land and fishing territory. The Order shall set preservation seasons for individual species of seals in adherence to international agreements. In the event of catch of protected seals, the Department of Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture must be notified and the catch shall be confiscated. Catch of seals with radio and satellite transmitters are prohibited and notified to the Greenland Institute of Natural Resource – as well as in the event of catch of flipper tagged seals. Hunting methods are established by this Order, whereby motor vehicles and weapons are restricted as per article 6. All catch must duly be registered and submitted to local authorities.
