Abstract The present Order lays down rules on animals primarily kept for fur production. It sets minimum requirements to be met when keeping fur animals, including on animal welfare, and prohibits the use of fur animals born in the wild in fur animal production. When keeping fur animals and especially when developing new methods within fur animal production, the biological characteristics of the fur animal species shall be given the utmost consideration. The Order prohibits routine or systematic use of medicine to compensate for poor hygiene or care conditions.
