Abstract

This Procedure is designed to take into account the target values of arsenic, cadmium, mercury, nickel and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the air to avoid, prevent or reduce their harmful effects on human health and the environment. It shall be applicable in the process of assessment of the air pollution level. Targets are used to determine the level of atmospheric air pollution by arsenic, cadmium, nickel and benzo(a)pyrene, which is a marker of carcinogenic risk for the content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The evaluation of the contents of arsenic, cadmium, nickel, and benzo(a)pyrene is carried out by the state system of hydrometeorological observations and authorized laboratories in zones and agglomerations throughout the territory of Ukraine. According to the results of the measurements made shall be drafted: (a) a list of zones and agglomerations in which the levels of arsenic, cadmium, nickel and benzo(a)pyrene are lower than the corresponding targets; (b) lists of zones and agglomerations where the target indicators are exceeded; for such zones and agglomerations, areas of excess and sources of emissions are indicated; and (c) lists of zones and agglomerations, where the excess was due to the action of natural sources and the resuspension of PM10 particles.
