Abstract

This Order approves the Regulation for Purse seine fishing. The Regulation consists of one Chapter establishing the requirements to be satisfied in order to perform the aforementioned activity with the following gear: American purse seine, South African Lampara net and Mediterranean Lampara net. It specifies fish species to be caught (in particular pelagic fishes: sardine, mackerel, bogue, anchovy and Atlantic horse mackerel) maximum 20% of by-catch; minimum mesh size to be used (16 mm). Purse seine fishing is not allowed within 1/4 mile from the baseline and in water not exceeding 20 m of depth within 1/4 and 1 mile from the baseline.
