Abstract

The Ordinance implements EU regulation regarding basic safety standards for protection against exposure to radiation dangers. The Ordinance provides for declaration of information on estimated periods of activity with radioactive waste, warehouse and accumulated radioactive waste to the competent authorities. Procedures and requirements for packaging shall be notified by the responsible authority. The Ordinance provides for requirements for the delivery and receipt of radioactive waste by both parties and the information that should be electronically recorded and receipts to be taken. Interim storage of radioactive waste before safekeeping and final storage is possible. The Ordinance consists of 11 Articles as follows: Accrual and remaining (1); Duty to record (2); Treatment and packaging (3); Obligations for delivery and receipt (4); Obligation to deliver (5); Exceptions to the delivery obligations (6); Interim storage (7); Prohibition of bypass (8); Radiation Protection Regulations (9); Administrative offences (10); Transitional provisions (11). Five tables are attached to the Ordinance that provide information on categorisation, bookkeeping and transport notification of radioactive waste with negligible heat generation and data to be provided about irradiated fuel elements and radioactive waste from reprocessing.
