Abstract

The 23 sections of the Act are divided into 3 Parts: Part I is without title; National parks, nature reserves, wild life sanctuaries and natural monuments (II); General (III). The Minister may by Order published in the Official Gazette declare that any specified area of Crown land shall for the purposes of this Act be: (a) a national park; (b) a natural reserve; (c) a wildlife sanctuary; (b) a natural monument (sect. 3). Section 4 lists various activities prohibited in national parks. Sections 4 and 5 provide for the restricted entry into national parks. Entry or stay in a national park requires a permit. Activities in national parks outlined in section 6 require a written authorization issued by the Administrator of a national park appointed under section 10 by the Public Services Commission. The Chief Forest Officer shall be responsible for the administration of this Act (subsect. 10(2)). Park officers may be appointed under subsection 10(1). Several powers with respect to appointment, decision-making and regulation remain with the Minister responsible for the national parks system.
