Abstract

In order to establish practices to abate soil erosion, siltation and sedimentation of the waters and to achieve a sustainable protection of the ecosystem, these Regulations, made under the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency Act, aim at minimising losses due to flood and erosion and their effects on vulnerable areas; controlling accelerated soil erosion, flooding and sediment deposition in water bodies and water courses in order to prevent water pollution; restricting or prohibiting land disturbing activities; regulating or minimising the alteration of natural floodplains, stream channels, and natural protective barriers of flood waters and improving the construction of flood barriers. The Regulations apply to all earth-disturbing activities, performed on unincorporated lands of the Country, being used or developed for non-agricultural, commercial, industrial and residential purposes.
