Abstract

The purpose of these Regulations, made under the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency Act, is to protect Nigeria’s ecosystem from the negative impact caused by charcoal production and handling, in order to: regulate the export of charcoal and its products; regulate felling of tree for charcoal production; increase charcoal domestic production; regulate internal and international trade in charcoal and its products. These Regulations do not concern charcoal used for subsistence purposes, but shall apply to: domestic production of charcoal; export of charcoal and its products; any person involved in felling of trees and charcoal production.
