The overall objectives pursued by establishing this marine area are a comprehensive environmental protection of the zone in question, giving particular regard to fauna and flora specimens. The Decree encourages the undertaking of research and educational programmes in the field of marine biology. All activities which are not consistent with the safeguarding of the marine area shall be forbidden, including activities such as hunting, gathering of fauna and flora species, introduction of non autochthonous specimens and waste discharges. The marine area is divided into three different zones (A, B and C) with different protection levels.
