Abstract

These Regulations, made by the Minister of Transport in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 57 and 59 read with section 450 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 2009, concern the licensing of vessels and related matters. An application for a licence under section 57 of the Act or for the renewal of a licence shall be in accordance with Form 1 in the Schedule. The owner of a vessel or the owner’s representative shall ensure that the licensed vessel shall be clearly marked with the official number assigned to the vessel. Change of ownership or a change in the name, designation or operation of a licensed vessel shall be notified immediately by the (new) owner to the authorities. The Regulations also define offences and prescribe penalties for those offences.
