Abstract

This Statutory Measure, made under sections 10, 13, 14 and 18 of the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act, 1996, requires facilities for the slaughter of pigs to annually register with the South African Pork Producers' Organisation ("the levy administrator") so as to obtain viable market information for the pork and pig breeding industry. The Statutory measure shall apply to abattoirs where pigs are slaughtered for commercial use and to exporters of live pigs. The establishment of the Statutory Measure aims at enhancing the efficiency of the marketing of pork.
