Abstract These regulations, consisting of 30 sections and one Schedule, establish the Maritime Transport (Oil Pollution Levies). The levies imposed by this order are oil pollution levies intended generally to provide money for the New Zealand Oil Pollution Fund to be applied by it for the purposes set out in section 331(1) of the Act. The levies described as capability levies are imposed particularly to support expenditures for the purposes set out in section 331(1)(b) of the Act and, more particularly, to support New Zealand’s oil pollution response capability or oil pollution response systems including capital expenditures to purchase or upgrade oil pollution response equipment.
