Abstract This Act provides rules for maritime navigation and relative to the nationality of ships, to property and other rights in respect of ships, and to liability in relation to shipping practice. The Act applies to all vessels and if a vessel is not used for the transport of passengers or goods all rules other than those specifically made for those for vessels destined for the transport of passengers or goods shall apply. A ship is considered to be of Finnish nationality and may carry the Finnish flag if it is owned, at least for 60 percent, by a Finnish national (sect. 1 of Chapter 1).
