Abstract

The present Legislative Decree has been enacted to implement at national level Directive 96/59/EC which makes provision on the controlled disposal of polychlorinated biphenyls and polychlorinated terphenyls (hereinafter “PCBs”), the decontamination or disposal of equipment containing PCBs and the disposal of used PCBs in order to eliminate them completely. Article 2 hereto gives a number of definitions, including “polychlorinated biphenyls” as well as “polychlorinated terphenyls”. Article 4 requires the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces to adopt and transmit to the Ministry of the Environment their respective programmes for the disposal and decontamination of equipment containing PCBs.
