This Law enters into force the day after the date of its official publication.
Abstract

This Law establishes the status and determines the legal regime the adjacent zone of Ukraine, as well as the order of realization of Ukraine in this the zone of their rights as a coastal state in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), other international treaties of Ukraine, generally accepted norms and principles of international law, the Constitution and laws of Ukraine. The coastal zone of Ukraine shall be considered the sea belt, which adjoins the territorial sea of Ukraine, the external border of which is at a distance not more than twenty four nautical miles measured from the outgoing lines, from which the width is measured of the territorial sea of Ukraine. Delimitation of the coastal zone between Ukraine and the states, the coasts of which are opposite or adjacent to the coast of Ukraine, shall be performed in accordance with international treaties of Ukraine. Ukraine in its coastal zone carries out the necessary monitoring for the purpose of: (a) prevention of violations of customs, fiscal (tax), immigration (migratory), sanitary legislation of Ukraine within the territory of Ukraine, including its internal waters or territorial sea; (b) prosecution for violation of the legislation of Ukraine, referred to in paragraph 1 of this part, committed within the territory of Ukraine, including its internal waters or the territorial sea. In order to prevent violations of Ukrainian legislation, referred to in paragraph 1 of part one of this article, or liability for violation of the aforesaid legislation, the authorized body which ensures the inviolability of the state border and the protection of sovereign rights of Ukraine in its coastal and exclusive (marine) economic zones may apply the following measures: (a) stopping of vessels; (b) inspection of vessels; and (c) detention or arrest of vessels and/or their crew members, except warships and other state vessels that are used for non-commercial purposes.
