Abstract This Law, consisting of 28 articles divided into six Chapters, creates the State Code on Animal Protection within the State of Pernambuco. This Code establishes the standards for animal protection in order to reconcile socio-economic development with environmental preservation, in line with art. 32 of Law No. 9.605 of 12 February 1998 and other related provisions. It specifies the requirements to be satisfied in order to preserve animal health conditions for wild, exotic, native, domestic animals, including those used for scientific purpose. The Law is divided as follows: Wild animals (Chap. II); Domestic animals (Chap. III); Intensive Systems for Agricultural Economy (Chap. IV); Laboratory animals (Chap. V); Final provisions (Chap. VI).
