Abstract This Law, consisting of 5 Titles, divided into 70 articles, establishes the State Policy on Solid Waste (PERS). This Law provides for principles, objectives, guidelines and tools of the above mentioned State Policy and establishes standards for the management and integrated solid waste management, in cooperation with the public sector, the provate sector and the other segments of civil society. The PERS integrates the State Policy Environment and Biodiversity Protection, established by Law No. 10,431 of 20 December 2006, and the State Basic Sanitation Policy, instituted by Law No. 11,172 of 1 December 2008, whose organs will be responsible to formulate coordinate, implement, monitor and evaluate the PERS.
