Abstract This Law creates the State Code for Animal Protection, which establishes standards for the protection of animals in the State of Santa Catarina, aiming to make socioeconomic development compatible with environmental preservation. Animal protection include Santa Catarina's native fauna living in the wild, including those in the process of migration, fish species from all aquatic environments and marine animals from the coast of Santa Catarina. Wild animals of any species, at any stage of their development, as well as their nests, eggs and shelters, are considered assets of common interest in the State of Santa Catarina, respecting the limits established by legislation.
