Law No. 11.977 creating the Animal Protection Code within the State of São Paulo.

This Law, consisting of 57 articles divided into six Chapters, creates the Animal Protection Code within the State of São Paulo, establishing norms for the protection and preservation of animals in the State. This Code establishes that all municipalities of the State, through specific projects, shall: comply with legal requirements for protection of wildlife; promote the integration of state standardization, inspection and wildlife management services; promote the inventory of local fauna; develop fauna management plans, especially for species threatened with extinction; collaborate in the fight against the trafficking of wildlife; collaborate in the global conservation network. All the State municipalities will develop centres for Management of Wildlife to: provide medical-veterinary care and biological monitoring of wild animals; support the inspection bodies in fighting against illegal trade and other matters against wildlife; etc. Specific hunting methods and gear are prohibited throughout the territory of the State as well as fishing in season and places prohibited by the competent body.
