Abstract This Law complements Regulation (EU) No 995/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council on setting obligations for operators who place timber and timber products on the market, and Instruments issued under Regulation (EU) No 995/2010. The Government shall designate the competent authority for purposes of the EU Regulation. The designated authority shall supervise compliance with EU law and Swedish law issued in connection with EU law. The authority shall have certain powers in respect of timber or timber products placed on the market by an operator if it is obvious that the timber or timber is due to illegal logging. The Law specifies powers of enforcement of the designated authority including seizure and forfeiture of illegal timber and products. Offences are defined and penalties for such offences specified.
