It includes definitions of "contiguous", "diagram", "erf", "land surveyor", "owner", "reference mark", and "township". The Minister shall appoint a Chief Surveyor-General (sect. 2). The Chief Surveyor-General shall be in charge of such geodetic, topographical and cadastrial survey and land information services in the republic as the Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs may direct and shall perform the duties specified in section 3. Offices of the Chief Surveyor-General may be established in the provinces (sect. 4). Such offices shall be headed by a Surveyor-General. Duties of these officers are outlined in section 6. A Survey Regulations Board is established under section 9. This Board may make regulations regarding the manner in which surveys shall be performed, the diagrams and general plans required in connection with registration of any land in the deeds registry, the forms of beacons, reference marks and other land-survey instruments, and other matters specified in section 10. Section 11 outlines the duties of a land surveyor and section 12 defines improper conduct of land surveyors. Section 13 seeks to limit the responsibility of the Surveyor-General or other survey officials for damages resulting from an act or omission by a Surveyor-General or such official in the course of the application of this Act. Section 15 prescribes that no general plan or diagram of any land shall be accepted for registration unless such plan or diagram has been approved by the Surveyor-General. Plans or diagrams shall be prepared in accordance with this Act (sect. 16) and no plan or diagram shall be approved unless prepared and signed by a land-surveyor (sect. 16).
