Abstract This Act regulates protection against ionizing radiation in order to minimize damage to human health due to exposure to ionizing radiation and radioactive contamination of the living environment, and at the same time to enable the development, production and use of radiation sources and radiation activities. For a radiation source intended for the production of nuclear energy, this Act regulates the implementation of nuclear and radiation safety measures in case of use of nuclear goods, as well as special protection measures. This Act determines the competences of the body responsible for nuclear safety, the body responsible for radiation protection, the ministry responsible for the interior and the inspectorate responsible for the interior for the implementation of provisions and supervision under this Act, including the powers of inspectors for inspection control over the implementation of such rules. Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom laying down basic safety standards for protection against the dangers arising from exposure to ionising radiation, and its repealing Directives (as listed in article 3) are here transposed. The provisions of this Act relating to the content of radioactive substances shall not apply to foodstuffs and their components, the content of which is determined by regulations on the health suitability of foodstuffs. Chapter 15 sets out related criminal provisions.
