The marine reserve has been set up to protect and preserve its environment, flora and fauna, to carry out research and to disseminate information on marine biology. Article 4 lists out the activities which are forbidden, such as navigation, professional and sport fishing, hunting. The area is divided into three different protected zones: Zone A (Total Reserve); Zone B (General Reserve); Zone C (Partial Reserve).
