The present Law enters into force on 1 April 1993.
Abstract

The purpose of the present Act is to regulate the use of public waters, public corporate waters, public groundwater and private waters. At the outset the Act contains a definition clause relating to various terms employed therein, such as “use of waters”, “public cantonal waters”, “public corporation waters”, “public groundwater”, “private waters”. Article 11 establishes that every use of water is prohibited, if it jeopardizes the public interest and, in particular, the potable water supply, the water resources in a certain area, or if it affects the environment disproportionately or hinders the expedient use of waters. The present text consists of 49 articles divided into 5 Parts as follows: General provisions (1); Use of waters (2); Use of hydraulic forces of cantonal waters (3); Abstraction and input of water or heat (4); Final and transitional provisions (5).
