Abstract

These Regulations implement Article 2.2 of EEC Council Directive No. 78/142/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to materials and articles, which contain vinyl chloride monomer and are intended to come into contact with foodstuffs. They specify a maximum permissible level for vinyl chloride in food of 0.01 mg/kg. The Regulations shall not apply to food for export. They shall be enforced and executed in the functional area of a health board by the health board. Where a sample of any food has been certified under the provisions of the Health (Sampling of Food) Regulations, 1970 (S.I. No. 50 of 1970) not to comply with these Regulations, an authorized officer may seize, remove and detain such food as being food which is unfit for human consumption.
