Abstract

These regulations, in implementation of Directive 92/46/EEC, establish health rules governing the production and placing on the market of raw milk, heat-treated drinking milk, milk for the manufacture of milk-based products and milk-based destined to human consumption. Chapter II deals with the production of the above-mentioned products in the territory of Malta. In particular, regulation 3 defines the requirements for the use of raw milk, whereas regulation 4 sets out requirements for the placing on the market of raw milk for human consumption. Regulation 5 establishes conditions for the marketing of heat-treated drinking milk. Regulation 8 deals with the manufacture of cheese. Regulation 11 concerns veterinary inspections and checks. Chapter III lays down rules applicable to imports from third countries. Five schedules complete the regulations. Schedule A sets out requirements relating to the acceptance of raw milk at treatment and processing establishments. Schedule B lays down general hygiene requirements and conditions for the approval of treatment establishments and processing establishments. Schedule C sets out requirements for the manufacture of heat-treated milk and milk-based products, including the following: microbiological criteria; packaging; labelling; storage and transport.
