Abstract The Guideline No. 12 of 2017 sets out the requirements for the manufacture and marketing of plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. The list includes monomers; additives (excluding colorants); polymer production aids (excluding solvents); and macromolecules obtained from microbial fermentation. Further, the regulation introduces migration limits for substances used in such packaging and lays down conditions for their use to ensure food safety. All plastic materials and articles must comply with both specific migration limits and overall migration limits. The guideline is partially approximated with the EC Regulation 10/2011 as amended.
