Abstract

Regulation on the management of batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators regulates the categories of waste batteries and batteries listed in Annex No. 1, in order to prevent or reduce impact on the environment and public health, thereby contributing to sustainable development of society. This Regulation establishes the conditions for the protection of the health of all those involved in life cycle of batteries and accumulators, i.e., manufacturers, importers, distributors, consumers and economic agents directly involved in collection, processing, recycling and environmentally friendly waste disposal of batteries and accumulators, by preventing or reducing negative consequences of waste generation and management, also by increasing the efficiency of waste use. This Regulation sets out the requirements for placing on the market of batteries and accumulators, and specific rules for collection, handling, recycling and disposal of waste batteries and accumulators, in particular the ban on placing on the market of batteries and accumulators containing hazardous chemicals. Manufacturers, importers, distributors, consumers and economic agents take the necessary measures to optimize the separate collection of used batteries and accumulators, minimizing the disposal of batteries and accumulators in the form of mixed municipal waste, also in order to achieve a high level of recycling for all waste batteries and accumulators, thereby contributing to the implementation of the principle of extended manufacturer's responsibility.
