Long title
An Act to authorise the making of a certain agreement with respect to fishing rights in the tidal waters of the Lough and River Foyle and its tributaries, to provide for the management, conservation, protection and improvement of the fisheries in the Foyle Area, to establish a Foyle Fisheries Commission and to define its functions, to dissolve the board of conservators for the Londonderry district, and to provide for other matters (including the charging of fees on certain fishing licences) connected with the matters aforesaid.

Abstract

The Act The authorizes the Ministry to enter into an agreement (in this Act referred to as the vesting agreement) with the Minister and the Irish Society with respect to fishing rights in the tidal waters of the Lough and River Foyle and its tributaries. The Act also establishes the Foyle Fisheries Commission and provides for its constitution and functions. Part V concerns times of fishing; close seasons and close time; and method and gear of fishing, etc. Part VI aims at protecting fisheries and establishes that a person shall not fish for, take or kill salmon or such other kind of fish except under the authority of a fishing licence and in accordance with the terms and conditions of that licence. The Part continues prohibiting certain methods of fishing and practices liable to destroy salmon and other fish, envisaging protection of young and breeding fish, etc. Part VIA regulates aquaculture. Part VII regulates powers of authorized persons, and Part VIII legal proceedings.
