There is constituted by this Act a body corporate with the corporate name of Safe Food Production NSW. Safe Food has such functions as are conferred or imposed on it by or under this or any other Act.Safe Food has the following functions: (a) to keep under review the construction, hygiene and operating procedures of premises, vehicles and equipment used for the handling of primary produce and seafood, (b) to provide advice or recommendations to the Minister on the establishment, development or alteration of food safety schemes, (c) to regulate the handling of primary produce and seafood the subject of food safety schemes to ensure that it is safe for human consumption, (d) to encourage businesses engaged in the handling of primary produce or seafood to minimise food safety risks, (e) to carry out such research as is necessary in order to perform the functions referred to in paragraphs (a)-(d). The Minister is to establish a committee to be called the Safe Food Production Advisory Committee. Regulations may make provision for or with respect to prescribing food safety schemes in relation to a type or a class or description of primary produce or seafood.
