The Order is made pursuant to section 13 of the Food Safety Act 1990 and implements also Commission Decision 97/613/EC. The Order prohibits the importation of pistachios originating in or consigned from Iran and specifies enforcement authorities. Section 4 provides for the applicability of specified provisions of the Act in relation with this Order.
