Country/Territory Kenya Document type Regulation Date 2003 Source FAO, FAOLEX Subject Fisheries Keyword Inland fisheries Fishery management and conservation Fishing gear/fishing method Use restrictions Geographical area Africa, Eastern Africa Abstract These Regulations grant the power to the Director of Fisheries to prohibit fishing for, landing of, processing, moving of and trading in: a) Nile Perch fish of a total length that is less than 50 cm or 85 cm, from the Kenya waters of Lake Victoria; b) Rastrineobola argentea (Omena) fish from the Kenya waters of Lake Victoria during the closed season; c) any species from the Lake Naivasha fishery waters during the closed season unless approved by the Director; and d) lobsters of a total weight of less than 250 grams. The Director may also prohibit the use of scuba-diving gear or spear guns to fish for lobsters and Beche-de-mer within the territorial waters of Kenya as described under the Maritime Zones Act unless this is done for experimental purposes.
