Abstract

These Regulations require the Ministry responsible for fisheries to set up a Vessel Monitoring System and prohibit the use of a vessel or boat for fishing or any related activity, unless there is installed on board the appropriate operational communication equipment duly approved by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry. Further, the Regulations impose communication requirements on operators of local and foreign vessels or boats who shall, at least two hours before entering the maritime zone, transmit specified data to the Fisheries Monitoring Centre at specified intervals. The Regulations shall apply to a vessel or boat licensed for fishing or any related activity under section 37 or 39, as the case may be, of the Act. Offences are defined and penalties are prescribed.
