Regulation 49 of the principal Regulations stipulates that the only permitted method of angling for salmon is catch and release. Regulation 50 provides that regulation 49 shall not apply to the waters specified in column 1 of Schedule 7, during the period specified in column 2 of that Schedule, but any salmon caught in excess of the number specified in column 3 of that Schedule shall be returned immediately, without avoidable injury, to the water from which it was taken.
