Abstract

These Regulations, made under the Environment Protection Act 2002, designate the Department of Environment the Designated National Authority of the Republic of Mauritius for purposes of (a) approving Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects proposed or established under the rules adopted under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol; and (b) exercising the powers of a designated national authority as authorized in the Kyoto Protocol. The Regulations also, among other things: define duties of the Designated National Authority; require for the carrying out of a CDM project in Mauritius a letter of no objection or a letter of approval, as the case may be; and establish a National CDM Committee.
