Its purposes are to reduce waste from vehicles and end-of life vehicles, and determine requirements for the production of new vehicles; to facilitate re-use, recovery and recycling of the end-of life vehicles and the materials, components and substance thereof; and to ensure the treatment and disposal of the end-of life vehicles in a safe and sound manner as regards human health and the environment, in accordance with the laws and regulations governing safety at work, emission of pollution into the environment and the quality of the environment.
