Embankment means earthen walls, dams, fresh-water and salt-water barriers and levees constructed for the purpose of excluding, regulating or retaining water. The Law sets out the procedures necessary for the construction of new embankments. Persons affected may claim compensation for the loss of land, buildings and crops caused by the construction of embankments. The Law also defines duties Region or State Embankment-Officers, District Embankment-Officers and Township Embankment-Officers regarding the maintenance of embankments and in particular, flood protection works. emergency works shall be carried out under the authority of the District Administrator. The Law also sets out prohibitions and defines offences. For example, one shall graze or pasture, cultivate, breed or construct buildings or use any machine on the embankment or within its boundary.
