Abstract

This Order introduces measures for the prevention of spreading of blue tongue in Jersey and prohibits the vaccination of a ruminating animal against bluetongue without an authorization of the Veterinary Officer. The Order, among other things, applies provisions of article 8 of the Diseases of Animals (Jersey) Law 1956 to bluetongue. Article 8 empowers the Minister to order slaughtering of diseased animals. Other measures include, immediate notification, the declaration of Jersey as an infected area, and isolation of diseased animals.
