Abstract

This Act concerns the control of diseases affecting animals and in particular transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. It specifies powers of the Department Agriculture and Rural Development to order slaughter so as to prevent the spread of diseases and specifies other powers of enforcement. The Department shall prepare guidance on the appropriate biosecurity measures to be taken in relation to any disease specified by Order of the Department and the Act requires compliance with such measures. The Act also provides for control of vaccines and international trade in animals and poultry.
