The right of marking is based on section 3 of the Reindeer Farming Act. Each farm shall have its own mark. Owners involved in joint-farming may require registration of a principal mark. In each reindeer pasture district a Marking Committee for the registration of marks shall be created. Section 3 concerns the form of the mark. Section 9 lays down rules for the actual branding. Section 10 to 12 concern unbranded calves and adult animals. Unmarked adult reindeer may be slaughtered and the meat sold under authority of a representative of the Committee.
