Abstract

This Decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry prohibits, for the year 2012, the fishing for herring and sprat by fishing vessels registered in Finland in ICES areas 22-28 and area 29 south of latitude 59° 30'N (Baltic Sea's central basin). However, vessels of a total length of not more than 20 metres may carry out trawl fishing in ICES areas 22-28 and herring may be caught at certain conditions by fishing vessels participating in "targeted" trawl fishing. The Decree also establishes total allowable catch quotas for fishing for sprat and herring in the Gulf of Finland at the outer part of the baselines and the northern Baltic Sea.
