Abstract This Decree, composed of eight articles, rules on the conservation and sustainable use of closed biome ecosystems, with the aim of protecting, conserving, restoring, and granting a sustainable management of closed biome ecosystems, as well as valorizing traditional population. The Decree compels the Ministry for the Environment to promote the supervision and institutional setting for implementing a dedicated Programme for the conservation and sustainable use of closed biome (“Programa Cerrado Sustentável”). Finally, it institutes, within the Ministry for Environment, the National Commission for the Programme “Cerrado Sustentável” – CONACER.
